For incentive programmes designed for large numbers of attendees, venue capacity and logistics are crucial. That’s why, when a large US-based insurance company began to organise their 2015 annual European incentive trip for 1,600 guests, they knew their choice of Destination Management Company (DMC) would be a make or break factor.
The ambitious programme would see groups of up to 200 people embark on the incentive over a six-week period in 10 waves, with at least two groups in the destination country at one time. Dublin-based DMC Odyssey International stood out from the competition — their operational know-how showed the client they were well-equipped to deal with the challenging logistics, while their presentation made a strong case for Ireland’s many exciting opportunities.
Odyssey was successful in their bid to bring the incentive groups to the duel sites of Dublin and Kerry, and quickly began organising a series of advance site inspections. Meetings with suppliers and operators went smoothly, with the Meet in Ireland team offering support and advice throughout the entire process.
The programme started in Dublin on a luxurious note, with the decision to accommodate guests in the historic surrounds of the Shelbourne Hotel. A series of city tours included visits to the Jameson Distillery and the Guinness Storehouse, while tours further afield were arranged in Belfast and Wicklow.
A gala evening celebration was hosted offsite at Royal Hospital Kilmainham, with a divergence beforehand to St Patrick’s Cathedral for a surprise recital by the boys’ choir. Mid-way through the programme, as guests boarded coaches and departed for Kerry, fresh incentive groups arrived at Dublin Airport. In Kerry, tours to Dingle, Blarney and other stunning locations were arranged, with dinner and entertainment taking place onsite at the Europe Hotel in Killarney.
The client — one that has hosted programmes all over the world — was extremely satisfied with their experience. “It would be hard to find a programme that had so many absolute treats in the way of talented creative entertainment, flawless execution of transport, and delightful guides and drivers. The compliments of our more than 1,600 guests continue to pour in.”
